The artist Sanae Yasuda and I first connected after sharing space on the pages of issue 3.1 of The Purposeful Mayonnaise last year, going on to develop a mutual admiration of each other’s work.
Sanae recently commissioned a poem for inclusion in the catalogue for a solo exhibition in Japan, and influenced by her piece, Motherhood.
Comprised of four panels interconnected into a single work, Motherhood draws inspiration from the four elements and the universal act of nurturing.
Combining interpretations of the artwork and principals from Bourriaud’s, The Radicant, Roots In Motion ponders how our self and endeavours are seeded to the current time, yet how they might endure beyond our own lives.
My gratitude goes to Sanae Yasuda for the opportunity to develop this poem alongside her work.
