What I’ve Found

It was a pleasure being invited to work with Twelve Thirty-Four and the artist Zach Wade again on their second exhibition together in Dallas: What I’ve Found.

Having produced a series of writing for Zach’s first show in 2023, Movements of the Mind, I was approached to create new work to accompany his latest series of paintings themed around flowers. The ten paintings were displayed at Twelve Thirty-Four’s retail showroom in Dallas, with the writing produced for the show printed and displayed within zines containing Zach’s sketches that were distributed to attendees on the opening night.

Rather than create individual pieces for each painting, I created a single piece of prose poetry that explored how the presence of flowers uplifts and inspires creative ventures. The individual paragraphs of the poem could be read as standalone work, or joined in their entirety to form a cyclical narrative that starts and ends with the flourishing of a new flower.

The following images display the writing within the pages of the exhibition’s zine alongside sketches by Zach Wade.

The soul

This commission marked the second piece of work produced to accompany artworks in 2024. My thanks again to Sanae Yasuda for being the first of these.
